ENG 012 Basic Writing: Research Databases

These databases provide essays on hot topics and debate issues.  Note: the essays found in these databases are generally NOT magazine/journal articles.

When searching databases, follow these tips:

• Use keywords, words you expect to find in the article.
• Use quotation marks around two or more words, e.g., "video games".
• Combine your keywords with "AND" & "OR": 
  • Use AND to retrieve articles that contain all of your keywords, e.g., "video games" AND violence.
  • Use OR to retrieve articles that contain one or more of your keywords, e.g., ("video games" OR "online games").
  • Use NOT to retrieve articles that do not contain a specific keyword, e.g., "video games" NOT Wii.

Use these databases to find articles published in newspapers, magazines and journals.
