HIST 207 African-American History: Secondary Sources

• Use Advanced Search and separate out keywords from your topic to get better search results.  For example, instead of typing "plantation slavery in southern colonies" all as one phrase, type "plantation slavery" in one box AND "southern colonies" in the second box.
• It helps to put phrases in quotes. Ex:  "middle passage," "Bacon's Rebellion", or "Great Awakening". 
• It may be helpful to search by subject terms/headings as well as by keyword.  Most databases provide a searchable subject thesaurus or directory of subject terms.
