Finding other journals through HCC:
Use the Libraries "Periodical Locator" to browse HCC Library's journals by title or subject.
Use the broad keyword search terms to get you started. Once you have a specific topic in mind, you can build upon your basic search by including other terms. For example: "nonverbal communication" AND children
Use the research databases below to locate journal articles relevant to this course. You can access these databases from both on and off-campus! If you are off-campus, you will be asked to authenticate by typing in your 14 digit HCC Library barcode number. This number is located on the back of your HCC ID card.
Boolean operators form the basis of database logic.
Use AND in a search to:
example: cloning AND humans AND ethics
The purple triangle in the middle of the Venn diagram below represents the result set for this search. It is a small set using AND, the combination of all three search words.
Use OR in a search to:
example: cloning OR genetics OR reproduction
All three circles represent the result set for this search. It is a big set because any of those words are valid using the OR operator.
Use NOT in a search to:
example: cloning NOT sheep
