Banned Books Poster Assignment

Discuss the banned book you chose in terms of:

  • Content: What is the plot?
  • Diversity-related themes and other major themes from the course.
  • Why the author(s) felt the need to write this text? (If this information is available)
  • Who demanded that this text be banned? Why and where? Was it one of many banned or was it specifically signed out? What else did the news have to say about this text?
  • Is there anything that the author(s) and illustrator(s) have said online to address why their book has been banned? (Via social or news media)

Requirements:

  • You will next talk about other children’s texts (one to three) that explore similar themes related to identity, and address reactions to them (Have they been banned as well?  Why or why not?  Etc.)
  • Tie your discussion of this text back to themes from the course.
  • Include at least four newspaper articles and/or academic sources in addition to your textbooks or the banned books you are discussing. See the Research Databases tab of this guide for links to newspaper and journal databases.
  • You must include a References section somewhere on your poster listing all of the sources you used. View the Citation Resources tab of this guide for the NoodleTools citation tool and APA style tutorials.
  • Make your poster interesting! Show some creativity here. It must be neatly laid out and easy to read, but other than that, it needs to show some creativity. View the links below for helpful information about creating posters.
