Research articles

WHAT IS A RESEARCH ARTICLE?

Articles describing research and experiments are always found in peer-reviewed journals. All articles of this type have the same elements:

  • abstract
  • introduction (or literature review)
  • methods used
  • results
  • conclusion (sometimes included with results)
  • discussion
  • list of references

Sometimes the parts of the articles are labeled, and sometimes they are not. If you are unsure if what you have found is a research article, ask a librarian.
